Religious freedom in Islamic countries Religious freedom in Islamic countries Religious freedom in Islamic countries: a European perspective Holger SCHEEL Researcher at the University of Kiel In my presentation, I will attempt to give an overview of religious freedom in Islam, and then compare religious freedom in Islamic law with the rules of public international law, from a European perspective. The question arises as to whether the often asserted incompatibility between Islam and human rights is really founded (1). According to Western doctrine, Islam is sometimes perceived as a threat to human rights (2). Would a secular system be better suited to protecting human rights, and in particular religious freedom? And above all, is a secular system a necessary condition for ensuring compatibility between Muslim law and human rights? Holger SCHEEL 2018 Public Law and Political Science Holger SCHEEL

Revue franco-maghrébine de droit Revue franco-maghrébine de droit This is the second book edited by Serge Regourd and Fatiha Sahli to be published by the Revue franco-maghrébine de droit, the previous title dating back almost ten years and dealing with Les politiques de décentralisation : études comparées franco-marocaines. This new publication testifies both to the attractiveness of our natural journal-media for the dissemination of academic studies on Maghrebian law-and to the openness of its editorial board. The committee does not restrict itself to contributions from CERJEMAF researchers, but welcomes valuable work in its field of investigation. This collection of articles is timely, at a time when revolutionary new audiovisual and telecommunications techniques are emerging. The comparative perspective enriches this analysis by comparing, on the one hand, a developing country anxious to modernize its legislation and liberalize the means of communication available to its citizens, and, on the other, a member state of the European Union, committed to preserving its cultural specificities while complying with directives adopted at Community level. It is revealing that, despite different levels of development and various external constraints, [...] Serge Regourd and Fatiha Sahli 2005 Public Law and Political Science Serge Regourd and Fatiha Sahli
The IXth WBU World Congress to be held in Morocco and Marrakech The IXth WBU World Congress to be held in Morocco and Marrakech Abdelmalek El Ouazzani The organization of the IXᵉ UMAU World Congress in Morocco, in Marrakech, in collaboration with the Laboratoire de Recherche sur la Coopération Internationale et le Développement (LRCID) of the Faculty of Law, on the themes of multifunctional agriculture, the issue of water and desertification, is symbolic in more ways than one. Morocco is an agricultural country that is also suffering from desertification and the increasing scarcity of water resources, particularly drinking water, from which part of the population does not yet benefit. This also raises the question of the role that agriculture should play in the process of sustainable development. In addition, as part of its commitment to tourism, Morocco is exploring the possibilities offered by rural tourism. It is thus part of a vision of sustainable development, in which a break with the traditional conception of the role of agriculture is becoming a necessity, while the diversification of its functions appears to be a prospect for the future. The congress brought together specialists from Latin America (Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, Nicaragua, Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador), Europe (France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Belgium) and North Africa. The issues addressed are, in fact, universal: every state on the planet is concerned, to varying degrees. Indeed, the presence of representatives from three continents among the delegates illustrates this reality. Freshwater resources account for only 3 % of the world's water reserves. Of this 3 %, 70 % is in the form of ice caps. As for the uses to which freshwater is put, 70 % is used for agriculture, 18 % for industry and only 8 % for domestic consumption.
